About the Subject
- TOBIN ROTE. (dec.) San Antonio, TX native. Led SA Harlandale HS to regional titles in 1944 & 1945. Lettered four years at Rice Institute (1946-49). Led Rice to the SWC title in 1949 and a 27-13 victory over North Carolina in the 1950 Cotton Bowl. Was also the SWC javelin champion in 1949 & 1950. Quarterback for the Green Bay Packers (1950-56), Detroit Lions (1957-59), San Diego Chargers (1963-64) & Denver Broncos (1966). Led the Packers in rushing & passing in 1951, 1952 & 1956. Member of the Green Bay Packer HOF. 1957 NFL title game Rote threw 4 TD passes & ran for a TD in a 59-14 victory over Cleveland. Only quarterback to win a title in the NFL (Detroit 1957) and the AFL (San Diego 1963)
