Artist’s statement about the piece:
“In The Elements of Baseball I examine the five elements of nature earth, fire, wind, water and void in terms of baseball. Earth: I took a literal interpretation and featured the ground-game of base running to represent Earth. Fire: Representing Fire, the heater is just one weapon in a pitchers strategic arsenal. Wind: I thought the acrobatic play of a fielder catching a zooming fly ball best demonstrated Wind. Water: The icy focus and steely determination of a batter facing the pitch represents Water. Void: What player hasn’t thought at one time or another that the reaction of the umpire represents the element of Void. Ha. Hope you enjoy.” – Robert Hurst
